Biography

Hugh Plumb, Matt’s older brother, joined Rum Bum Racing when Nick Longhi stepped away from driving duties. The Plumb brothers had previously raced together at Bill Fenton Motorsports, making Hugh a natural fit for the championship-caliber program.

Olympic Heritage

Like his brother Matt, Hugh is the son of Olympic athletes Michael Plumb and Donnan Sharp. While Matt pursued a traditional career in finance before returning to racing, Hugh had continued in motorsports, gaining experience in street bikes and sports car racing.

VIR Dominance

The Plumb brother pairing proved especially potent at Virginia International Raceway. Prior to joining Rum Bum Racing, Matt and Hugh had teamed together at VIR twice before—winning both times (2006 in an Acura RSX-S and 2008 in a Mustang GT). They continued that success with Rum Bum, making VIR a stronghold for the team.

2015 Championship Challenge

Hugh’s best season came in 2015, when he and Matt finished second in GS points with victories at Daytona, Road America, and Virginia International Raceway. The season showcased the natural chemistry between the brothers and their ability to push each other to peak performance.

Family Affair

Racing at the professional level with a sibling creates unique dynamics. The Plumb brothers channeled their competitive relationship into on-track success, with their shared understanding and trust enabling aggressive yet calculated racing.

“Racing with Matt brings out the best in both of us. We know exactly what the other is thinking.”
