Biography
Matt Plumb served as both lead driver and General Manager of Rum Bum Racing, guiding the team from concept to the most successful program in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge history. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Economics from the University of Virginia.
Early Racing Career
Matt began his racing career in 1997, winning the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Championship in his rookie season with an incredible 13 wins. Since then, he accumulated over 20 professional victories while competing in six different championships before joining Rum Bum Racing. If it has a steering wheel and tires, he can drive it.
Family Legacy
Racing runs in the Plumb blood. Matt is the son of Michael Plumb and Donnan Sharp—both former Olympic athletes. His father Michael holds the record as the American who competed in the most Olympic Games, participating in every Summer Games from 1960 to 1992 as an equestrian. His mother Donnan competed in dressage at the 1968 Olympics and earned silver at the 1967 Pan American Games.
Career with Rum Bum Racing
Matt joined Rum Bum Racing in 2009 as both driver and team manager. In the team’s very first race at Daytona International Speedway in 2010, he and co-driver Gian Bacardi took the victory—a sign of things to come.
Over seven seasons, Matt accumulated an unprecedented 21 wins, making him the winningest driver in series history. His 2012 season saw five victories, leading the team to its first championship. In 2013, he won both the team and driver championships with three wins and seven podiums.

Matt’s approach combined strategic patience with decisive execution. Known for his ability to manage races and deliver when it mattered, he embodied the consistency that defined Rum Bum Racing’s success.
